As an enabling technology, surface engineering affects almost every product around us by making them to be more long lasting, functional and productive. Despite the numerous positive benefits of our technology, far too little is sometimes known in our society about how surfaces are researched and engineered. In some rare occasions, science fiction, films, games and other digital works have unintentionally portrayed some of the recent advances related to this field.
In this webinar, Professor José L. Endrino:
- Emphasized the societal importance of the surface engineering sector.
- Showed scenes from seven occasions in which the materials science of coatings and thin films was brought to a large audience.
- Explained with published examples the close relation between coatings research and the scenes displayed.
